Vampire Street Brawl
Marion is in a very good mood. She talked Dawn into letting her show her how some things are done. So she has her book that is filled with field notes.
"Just read through the section I have on vampires. I'm taking us to an area I heard had some... problems. We'll do a basic walk through. See what we can see," Marion instructed.
"The way I see it? We probably won't run into trouble but I gotta few weapons in the trunk we should carry on us just in case." She purses her lips as she drives. "I still don't really get the whole deal with you and.... the magic thing you do. I'll understand it better in time. Still smart to walk with a few basic weapons. I have these really nice hand held cross bows. They can be used with just one hand, easy to hide on your person."
Marion flips the turn signal on as they turn right. She grins at her passenger. "Perfect accessory for the supernatural hunting lady. Just like a good knife."
She is looking for some decent out of the way parking. They should be within walking distance right now.
"Any questions?"

Am I crazy, Doc?
Dawn double-checked the piece of paper and confirmed the address. Even by Greenwich Village standards, the building was an art deco nightmare come to life. But this was the place. The address had been given to her by Sophia Strange following the demon invasion, along with an offer to help sort out whatever she might be dealing with.
Dawn had put off going, for a variety of reasons, some of them life related, some of them fear related. Whatever was going on with her wasn't going away, no matter how hard she tried to ignore it. Dreams nearly every night, instincts at war with each other, and, perhaps worst of all, the strangest feeling of impending dread whenever she looked at certain people, as though something terrible was going to happen to them.
Considering what had happened, she probably wasn't insane. Which, in its way, was a good thing. On the other hand, it meant that whatever was happening to her was far more real and probably far more terrible.
Either option was far from good.
She used the ominous door knocker to knock and hoped she knew what she was getting herself into.

At least coffee still makes sense
Fortunately for Dawn Roberts, the word had continued to mostly make sense in the days and time since she and several others had fought off a demonic invasion of Manhattan. She still wasn't entirely certain what that had been all about, and was only certain that it was over, and had filed much of the rest under things she had preferred not to think about.
Had this been a comic book, surely one of them would have suggested that they form a team after their shared adventure. But they hadn't, by and large, been the kind of people likely to do that. A few of them had swapped phone numbers and e-mails and the like. Dawn would have just wanted it all to be over and forget about it, if not for the fact that she was increasingly concerned about her own sanity. That and the one woman had referred to her as "Valkyrie." That had implied she'd known... something? Dawn had taken a phone number. She might work up the courage to call.
Maybe.
The dreams were getting worse. Blood and death and swords and monsters and warriors and...
She sipped her coffee. The place wasn't far from the library where she worked. She came there often after work. At least coffee still made sense.

Dire News At The Door ((Open For All Reactions))
Mrs. Mary MacNeilly's report to the New York State Education Department was far from glowing. Her report caused a lot more concern and shock than normal process usually allowed. They did their research on previous inspections just to see how long this mutant school problem had been going on. Despite their research showing there had never been an issue as large as what was put before them, they had to take action on what Mrs. MacNeilly had reported.
The NYSED informed the superintendent in the district Xavier's was located in of the issue. They also got in touch with Westchester County's office about Xavier's certificate of occupancy due to the structural damage Mrs. MacNeilly had witnessed happening to the school building. With the report of mutants on the grounds the state and county governments got their information squared away before sending representatives to the school with protection from law enforcement. Child Protective Services got into the loop after being informed of a young girl living at the school surrounded by mutants who quite possibly could not control their powers.
As the media got wind of what was coming to a quiet yet secretive school in upstate New York, TV stations sent crews out. Some of the government representatives were glad to talk vaguely about what was happening at the school live. With the cameras aimed to put the people going into the school on film, a TV reporter stepped into the frame.
"This is Samantha Boulevard here not far from the town of Salem Center in Westchester County. Government officials from the New York State Education Department are here delivering a notice of probation for the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. The school came under scrutiny recently during an inspection by a certified educational inspector. My sources have told me that this school poses as a private institution for education but has been revealed to be habitat for mutants."

Who Will Defend Us?
Manhattan
Central Park
April
1:26 pm
The portal from Limbo opened easily and without triggering the wards that warned those mystically sensitive of what was happening in the city. S'ym's erstwhile ally had seen to that. Not that S'ym trusted him further than he could throw him, but he had been truthful enough in what he could provide.
Other demons, made temporarily invisible, followed him out of the portal.
"You all know S'ym's plan," he said. "Raise hell out there. Make the humans panic. The more chaos we sow, the weaker our ally makes the barrier between dimensions. And when that happens, he says this world will belong to S'ym! And what's good for S'ym is good for all of you!"
The demons began to cheer.
S'ym puffed on his cigar. "But it's gonna take all of you doin' what we do best. Killin' folks, corruptin' this world, just like we done before. Only there ain't no X-Men here to stop us this time! No little Darkchylde to ruin things! This time... this world... will... be... OURS!"
The demons flew off, ready to raise hell.

Probably Going Crazy, but in New York, Who'd Notice? (open)
Dawn Roberts stifled a yawn as she left the Mid-Manhattan Library where she worked. It was about six pm and, while it hadn't been that long a day, she still felt exhausted. Which, in its own way, was pretty weird, since she didn't seem to get tired from just physical exertion these days. Not since...
Not since she'd been stabbed. There. She's said it. Since... something had happened. She should have died. She wasn't entirely certain that she hadn't died. Because something had to have happened. If it had just been the sudden change in strength and durability and stamina, she might have suspected she was a mutant, like her cousin David, but she was pretty sure that mutant powers a) manifested earlier and b) didn't come with a sometimes invisible sword and the ability to fight like something out of Braveheart.
The real question was, why was she still hanging on to the sword? Which, the voices which sometimes occupied her head, was apparently called Dragonfang. She could have very easily dropped it in the sewer or in the pond in Central Park or something, but it just felt profoundly wrong whenever she thought about it.
But her nights were filled with dreams of battle and blood and fighting and drinking. Too real, like memories, memories she was certain were not her own.
She should probably see a psychiatrist, but considering her insurance probably wouldn't cover it and she didn't have nearly the kind of money needed to pay for it herself, well, she was just going to have to accept that she was either insane or possibly possessed
Right. Was there some point to all this inner monologing?
Tired. Right. She needed coffee.
Fortunately, this was New York and there was a Starbucks right across the street.
